This article recalls the main occasions when Pope Francis has exercised his leadership on behalf of the whole human community, be it in gestures or in words. It then examines what has been most striking about these words and gestures and why they have attracted him so much attention.
Finally, it examines how Pope Francis communicates his messages, for whom it can be said that “the messenger is the message.”
The message of merciful love, which Pope Francis expresses freely and extends in every direction, shows itself a new and effective source of reflection, orientation, and hope in today’s world even beyond the confines of the Catholic Church.
